Avarice

What Avarice is

Avarice is a Discord community of about 6,000 members, built around talking to each other and turning up to things together. Around 665 people do something here in a given month. On a normal day, between 70 and 100 are active.

What makes it different from a chat server is that we built our own things to do in it. There is a working economy, two rival crews at war with each other, pets people raise over weeks, and a set of multiplayer games on this site that the community plays together on event nights.

None of it costs money. Everything runs on points earned by taking part in the server. There are no deposits, no withdrawals, and nothing to cash out. We are not a casino.

The economy

You earn points by talking, sitting in voice, working a timed job, keeping a daily streak alive, and winning at the tables. You can bank them for interest, send them to other members, or spend them in a store our staff stock themselves.

The biggest single source of points is ordinary conversation, which is deliberate. The economy is attached to people talking to each other rather than to a side game you have to opt into.

The crews

Members pick a side, Vipera or Cuore, and stay picked. A season runs for weeks. You feed earnings into your crew's treasury, take contracts, claim territory, vote your crew into turf wars, and climb a rank you have to earn. A third crew is held back as the prize for winning a season.

The pets

You adopt an animal, name it, and raise it. It gets hungry in real time, wants feeding, gains levels, and grows from baby to teen to adult. Grown pets fight each other and go out on jobs. Getting one to the top takes weeks of coming back every day.

The events

We have a dedicated events team whose whole job is keeping the place lively. They run a weekly calendar and fill it: Minecraft nights, Jackbox, karaoke, movie nights, Gartic Phone, and the bingo nights they host themselves. Events run in voice and in general chat, most days of the week.

Our games are free to play and free to enter. Nobody pays to take part.

How it is looked after

Avarice is led by Jay, who founded the server and runs it day to day. He set the standards it operates under and wrote the rules himself. The server is strictly 18+, and hate speech, harassment, NSFW content, scams and doxxing all get you removed. Warnings escalate on a set path, and every action is logged and appealable.

Our art is commissioned from a working artist, Cheshire, rather than assembled from stock assets. The bot and this website are built and maintained in house.
